Sometimes I can’t stand it when I buy fabric for a project and there’s so much left over, yet I have no idea what to do with it. So, like many of you I’m sure, I have quite a bit of extra fabric lying around I could probably start my own fabric supply store on the side. Obviously this is great for when I need a certain type of fabric and it just so happens that I have it in my left over supply. But most of the time that’s not the case. So…today, (and for the next couple of days), I’m going to provide you with 3 DIY tutorials to use almost every piece of 2 and a 1/2 yards of fabric. Pretty great, eh? So here we go.
Today I will show you how to make an infinity scarf.
Here’s what you’ll need for all 3 projects.
2 and 1/2 yards of loosely woven fabric (for all 3 projects) – Fabric should be at least 49 ” wide
Fabric measuring tape
All purpose Pins
Hand sewing needle
Step 1: Lay your unfolded fabric out to cut. Measure 21″ of width from left to right and cut down the center for the length. Take the left piece that measures 21 ” wide and cut it at 72 ” for your length of this project only. It just so happens that our dinning room table is 72 ” in length so this table helps out tremendously for this project. ( Important Note: Don’t cut the length of the remaining fabric on the right, you will need the length longer than 72 ” for the other two projects.) Set your remaining fabric aside for the next two projects.
Step 2: Take the 21 ” width fabric and fold it in half, right sides together and pin it.
Step 3: Machine-sew the long edge with a 1/2-inch-wide seam allowance.
Step 4: Turn sewn fabric right side out.
Step 5: Pin the right sides of the ends of your fabric together. Machine sew together using a 1/2-inch-wide seam allowance and leaving a 4-inch-long opening.
Step 6: Hand-sew the opening shut.
And there you have it, your first look…a lovely infinity scarf.
Be sure to check back tomorrow and the next day for the two remaining looks.
Have a Fab You Bliss day!
PS…if you happened to be at the Boathouse in Santa Barbara yesterday, yes…that was me wearing this outfit 😉
