Easy Handmade Jersey Knit Dog Toy

If you follow this blog, you already know how much I adore our Pupp-Awg Quinley…right? And if you’re new here, the fact that Pupp-Awg has her own page here on FYB should give me a away a bit ๐Ÿ˜‰ I mean, in all reality, we don’t really consider her a pet. She’s more like our child. Needless to say she is quite spoiled. Toys, toys, toys and more toys usually litter the floor of every room in the house at any given point in the day. And each day I often feel like a mother picking up her child’s toys when I clean up her toy explosions. But I love it too. And I love it even more when I see the excitement in her face when we give her a new toy. So…making some new toys for her seemed like a brilliant thing to do. And it’s super easy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Some jersey material, new or old in different colors and patterns. I used 10 different colors and patterns

Scissors

Rubber band

And a few minutes of time.

Step 1: ย Cut 30 pieces, 1″ width x 25″ length. (This is for a large dog. For a small dog I’d suggest 15 pieces and reduce the length to maybe 15″).

Step 2: ย Divide 30 pieces into 3 piles of 10 like so.

Step 3: ย Rubber band the top of the three pieces together to start your braid leaving about 5 inches of un-braided tassels to make your knot. Then remove the rubber band and make a knot where it was. Pull the knot tight making sure to pull on the tassels so there’s a few inches dangling after the knot.

Step 4: ย Make a knot on the other end following the same method in step 3.

And there you have it…a fun new toy for your fur baby! Now I just have to figure out how to get a squeaker in it ๐Ÿ˜‰

As you can see, Quinley absolutely loves it. It was even a bit hard to capture these pictures of her because she was tossing it up in the air and moving around with it quite a bit.

But these two funny pictures below are my favorites. It’s like she’s winking at me…haha!

And this one just makes me laugh…such a funny girl!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I’ll be making more dog stuff in the weeks to come, so be sure to check back.

Have a Fab You Bliss day!

xoxo

Stephanie

Haha! She is so cute! I am convinced my dogs have more toys than some children but I can’t stop because like you I LOVE how excited they get when I bring them home a new one. It’s the little things.

Love this idea!!! I was just wondering…I have a black lab and he is quite the chewer. His current rope toys get devoured pretty quickly, and we have to take them away. How do these hold up?

Hi Kelly – The one I made for Quinley didn’t last very long, maybe a month. But they’re so easy to make I just keep making more and she just loves them. Honestly…I think she loves the toys I make for her more than the ones we buy at the store. The last toy I made was crafted out of felt and after she tore threw it she carried that piece of felt around in her mouth like a carcass for days. Sweet, silly dog!!!

Hi, you have an adorable doggie! I have two mini schnauzers one just 6 months and the other about 1 and a half- they love chew and tug so I gave your project a go. My input- the length still needs to be longer even for smaller dogs or else it is just impossible to tie the knots at the ends. Maybe for the smaller dogs less strands or just a bit thinner strands, but I recommend more than 15 in length! Pups happily chewing as I type this! Thanks for the great idea!
