I think this necklace set is probably one of the prettiest pieces of jewelry I’ve made in a long time! Even better, you can separate the three necklaces and wear them apart if you like.
I think the key to making layered pieces that work well together is the same as in design or fashion, pick one constant color or texture and everything will flow beautifully.
Here’s what you’ll need.
Small size chain
Medium size chain
Assorted size and color glass beads
Assorted size and color plastic pearl beads
Note: The measurements I provide here are guidelines. Please measure yourself for appropriate lengths for you as mine might be too big or too small for some. Thanks and enjoy!
Step 1: Start with the 3 strand choker. I chose pearl, grayish pearl and copper pearl beads to be the base. Tie bead thread to jump ring and string beads to 16″. Attach clasp to other end to connect.
Step 2 & 3: Pick a similar or complimentary color palette in different size and shaped beads for your other two strands. Make one strand 15.5″ and the other strand 17″.
Step 4: Next for the middle necklace. Measure your medium size chain to 21 or 22 inches depending on your preference for length.
Step 5: Attach clasp to one end of chain and jump ring to the other end to connect the ends together.
Step 6: Make bead combinations to hang from middle necklace. Again, pick a color and size combination that will coordinate with the rest of your piece. Tie double or triple knot at the end of your bead thread so the knot is big enough to prevent any of your beads from slipping past.
Step 7: Line beads up, then tie a double knot of the other end to a jump ring.
Step 8: Clip of extra bead thread with wire cutters to make sure you have a nice clean look. Repeat process for 4 sets of bead combinations to hang in an alternating pattern from middle chain.
Step 9: Next make three bead stings to hang from the center of your middle necklace. Your 3 different bead strings should be about 2″, 2.5″ and 3″. Connect all three bead strings to 1 jump ring by tying a knot from each of them to the jump ring.
Step 10: Measure your small, long chain at about 30″ single or 15′ double as shown below.
Step 11: Add a jump ring to pendant and attach to chain.
Then combine all of your pieces and you’re done!
