Designing with Lovely & Oh-So Calming Neutral Tones

There’s something so soft and beautiful about a room designed with neutral tones. I’m drawn to these kinds of colors, but that’s pretty obvious as soon as you enter our home. The Hubby is not so thrilled about all the beige though, so I’ve added some pops of color here and there to please his palette as well.

But, since our house is not quite in the showing state…yet, let’s take a look at some rooms below to see how other designers have put together rooms is this wonderful tone.

Designing a room with a neutral tone does not need to be boring. Oh-no! In the living room below found at Better Homes & Gardens, editors, designers and color pros show us how to choose and use color to add interest to any room. Even beige! Lovely, isn’t it?

Isn’t this barn style bedroom room just gorgeous? Designing with neutral tones does not mean you need to stick with beige and brown. Actually adding touch of black as shown in the image below from Style at Home can be quite beautiful and welcoming.

This entry design below featured on House Beautiful brings in various shades of green through the leaf painting and the stripe in the rug which adds an extra special element to the over-all neutral tone.

This neutral striped fireplace as seen on iVillage is, as they’ve indicated, very sleek! The neutral and metallic horizontal stripes punch up a contemporary fireplace and add interesting visual focal point. I don’t know about all those logs in the fireplace though ;-)

Stainless steel is a lovely mix with the neutral tones of this kitchen found on iVillage, don’t you think?

In the lovely Manhattan penthouse apartment living room below designed by Purvi Padia Design and featured by Houzz, the designer has incorporated a wonderful array of neutrals with pops of color where she could. I love the mix of gray and burnt orange!

In this next room from designer S.R. Gambrel, light blue makes a wonderful appearance in this neutral living room in the Hamptons. I used to have a couch just like this. Hmm…now I wish I still had it. PS…I love the lamp!

And again we will finish with one of my favorites. This bedroom found on iVillage is exactly what I would love to wake up to every morning. How about you?

Hope you enjoyed this week’s design topic. As always, if you have any ideas on this or any other design you’d like us to cover, we’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by!
