A Beautiful DIY Lakeside Forest Wedding at Laurentian Lodge

Today’s wedding comes to us from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada. Photographed by Caroline Ross Photography and held at Laurentian Lodge, Maria and Matthew’s beautiful forest wedding was everything they dreamed it would be.

From The Bride

We tried to keep everything local in Elliot Lake. Our DJ, Sights and Sounds, Florist, Alpine Flowers and hair stylist, Attitudes Salon were all from Elliot Lake. Matt and I did the coordinating. We printed our own invitations, made our own card holders from firewood out of my parents woodshed that Matt used a skill saw and drill to make. The lodge was awesome for doing exactly what we wanted in customizing our dinner to what we both wanted.

My bridesmaid Sarah ordered the parasols from a store in Edinburgh Scotland and brought them with her from England. The beer holder favors came from a cool company based in the US that does custom order prints. My dress was the first dress I tried on. My mother and I just went in the store to browse and since I hadn’t tried on any others, I put it on hold for a month while I shopped around. But that dress stayed on my mind. Unfortunately, it was a few sizes too big and discontinued. So the seamstress had to alter it from a size 10 to a 2. It took 7 fittings or so, but it was worth it. And I got my dream dress off the clearance rack. I never would have thought that!!!

For the bridesmaids dresses, I had made a trip to Toronto to pick one with the girls but we were not successful. After I came back, I narrowed it down to two and had a couple of the girls Skype call me from the store so I could see them trying on the dresses!
