When it comes to weddings, there’s nothing I like more than a great couple, their sweet story, and a happy ending in the form of a lovely, rustic garden affair with some of my all-time favorite colors…soft blush and champagne.
Photographed by BellowBlue, Heather and Nic were married at Heidel House Resort & Spa in Green Lake, Wisconsin and as you can see…it was a beautiful event. Be sure to read their story and more about their wedding from the bride herself at the bottom of the post. Enjoy!
Nic and Heather were acquaintances from high school, but they didn’t officially start dating until three and a half years later. At that point Heather was entering her sophomore year of college and Nic had joined the Marines and was home on leave from his job training. Nic crashed Heather’s housewarming party and they instantly reconnected. Although they only had a few days together before Nic had to report back to his base. So it was the start of what would be a long distance relationship for nearly three and a half years. What kept them so connected were short trips that sometimes only lasted 1-2 days at a time, countless hours on the phone, and mailing care packages back and forth. During the course of their relationship, Nic moved across the country twice, served a tour in Afghanistan and traveled for Marine Corps training. During the same time Heather finished up her degree back home in Wisconsin, worked and performed two internships, and started planning their wedding. Then six months before their wedding, Nic’s active duty enlistment was finished and he moved home for good so they could start their lives together!
From the bride:
We’ve always been a pretty romantic and sentimental couple, so we wanted to showcase those emotions in everything we did for our big day. I love being crafty and wanted to use my skills for our wedding, so I handmade quite a few details, such as the invitations, programs, menus, truffle favors, centerpieces and even my shoes! We’ve never been big fans of wedding locations like ballrooms and hotels, so we took a chance with the weather and planned everything outdoors with a courtyard wedding and tented reception in Green Lake, WI. It paid off, because the weather was perfect and our guests loved being outside in the fresh air. We really wanted to bring that rustic charm and elegance to the outdoors, and were very happy with how it turned out. Our wedding felt like a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” with soft blush and champagne colors, lots of roses and hydrangeas, flowy dresses, tons of candles, moss-covered tables and woodland decor. Our venue was perfect for the feeling we were going for – it was nestled in the trees with a private garden, brick paved courtyard and enchanted-looking cottage. Celebrating with our closest friends and family was amazing, but one of the most memorable parts of the day was when we took a minute right after dinner to sit by ourselves to just talk and laugh about how crazy and amazing it was that we were finally married.
