Your wedding invitations are the first impression your guests will receive about your big day. So of course you want them to be a stylish representation of what your wedding is going to be, right? And if you’re anything like me, you have a discerning palette for exceptionally crafted products. Yet on the other hand, you want to do your part to be eco-friendly with your wedding. Seems like a conflict, right?
Not so. In fact, in today’s post, week three of my Green Wedding Series, I will show you five fantastic ways to achieve the perfect announcements and invitations…and be kind to the environment as well.
Seek Out Invitations Made with 100% Recycled Paper
Using 100% recycled paper is a must if you want your wedding to be eco-kind. And, lucky for us, gone are the days when recycled paper only came in not so pretty brown tones. Yep, nowadays you can find all kinds of 100% recycled paper options that are just as beautiful as traditional papers. Check out some of the links below. All companies listed provide 100% recycled paper or one of the other eco-kind options mentioned in this post.
Tree Free Paper is Great for Eco-Friendly Invitations
Tree free paper is another great option for eco-friendly wedding invitations. But what’s tree free paper? Tree free paper is made from shredded cloth using silk, grass, and petals. Bella Figura is a fine invitation company that uses tree free paper and only works with suppliers that share their environmental values. Another great company to check out that uses tree free paper is Blue Magpie.
Search For Invitations That Your Guests Can Actually Grow
This is probably my favorite option as not only do you get to announce your wedding in a beautiful way, your guests have the option of planting the invitation, paper and all. The paper is hemp paper, which is also tree free. These are great eco-friendly wedding invitations because instead of throwing your wedding invitation away, guests can moisten them and throw them on the ground to grow beautiful wildflowers. How wonderful is that? Green Field Paper and Forever Fiances are two lovely companies you should check out if you are interested in plant-able invitations.
FSC Certified Cotton Paper is Another Green Invitation Solution
FSC certified means that the paper is certified for responsible forest management and consists of partially recycled content. Rifle Paper Co in Winter Park, Florida does a beautiful job with their handmade creations. They use FSC-certified paper stocks with recycled content, environmentally responsible printers, and select high quality materials that allow for products that are both well-made and enhance their designs.

And Last But Not Least…Send Out E-Invitations
Again, if you’re like me, a quality paper loving geek, this option may not work for you. But, I have to list it because it is THE number one way to be as eco-friendly with your wedding as you could ever be. With this option, you simply create a save-the-date, invitation or both using one of the many online wedding invitation services out there. Or if you’re handy with graphic design, you could make your own. Then you email your invitations to all your guests with zero percent waste!
One of my favorite online options is Greenvelope, a charitable and stylish site that allows you to create beautiful invitations that look like real paper. To see more online invitation services, simply type “online wedding invitations” into your browser and you’ll get a whole host of options.
The bottom line is this, nowadays there are lots of options if you want to go “green” with your announcements and invitations. But remember, you don’t have to sacrifice quality as there are lots of eco-kind options in all price points and styles that will surely satisfy your desires.
