Choosing eco-friendly wedding favors is probably one of the best things you can do if you want to have an eco-beautiful wedding. As much as we’d like to think all of our guests will adore the favors we’ve painstakingly chosen, the truth of the matter is…not everyone does. It’s nothing against our taste, some people just don’t like to keep trinkets…no matter how adorable they are to us. So…why not make it more difficult to throw your favors away by providing ones that are plants or something yummy?
If you’ve just started following, you’re in for a treat with this Green Weddings Series. Week One was Eco-Chic Wedding Gowns, Week Two Eco-Beautiful Flowers, Week Three Eco-Stylish Wedding Invitations, and Week Four Eco-Friendly Wedding Venues. And today, week five is all about Eco-Smart Wedding Favors.
These little babies are pretty perfect for eco-friendly favors, for several reasons. One, they can be re-planted or left in the existing container and they’re pretty much good to go. Two, they are fairly drought tolerant so even a person with the blackest of black thumbs would have a hard time killing one. Well, not really…but you know what I mean. They don’t require a lot of care and that’s great for most people. And three, who doesn’t love a little succulent?
Goodies in Mason jars, oh the possibilities are endless! From mini pies like the photo example below to coco and marshmallow layered gift jars…you can pretty much create any kind of treat for your guests in jars. Of course, with a long wedding day and your guests’ trip home, you’ll want to make sure any treats you provide don’t need to be refrigerated.
Not everything in this list is handmade. And by no means do I only recommend DIYing favors or anything for your wedding for that matter. There are plenty of excellent vendors who provide eco-friendly favors to purchase. DIYing is just an option as there are a lot of people who simply want to make something special, (anything), for their wedding.
If you’re not one of those types, purchasing a personalized seed packet favor like the ones below from RedCloudBoutique may be right up your alley. Or a simple Google search for “eco-friendly personalized seed packets” will get you going in the right direction. Be sure to look for ones made with recycled paper, or better yet…seed paper so the packaging can be planted as well!

Again, nothing says “Don’t Throw Me Away” like a jar or bottle full of yummy goodness! And with honey or preserves, your guests could make use of your favor for months after your wedding. And…I’m sure each time they reach for that special jar, they’ll think about how wonderful your wedding was. That’s a bottle full of eco-friendly goodness at its best!
I think this idea is my favorite. What a wonderful thought to give your guests a tiny tree to plant in honor of your big day. And just think, they can watch it grow as your marriage grows too! Even better, planting a tree gives back so much to the environment. So, your gift will be a double gift that keeps giving in two separate but very special ways!
These heart shaped bird seed favors from Nature Favors are really a smart and super cute eco-friendly favor option. I mean, how nice will it be for your guests hang these lovelies?

While these aren’t necessarily a guest favor, they’re still something fun for your guests to use during your wedding. As shown by Posh Paperie via Style Me Pretty, these cute DIY tossers are adorable. To make them more eco-friendly, use recycled or plantable paper and replace the rice with seeds or petals.
