Each bride has a vision of how she wants to look on her wedding day. Many are convinced the only way to achieve such a look is by using products not of the Eco-friendly variety. I mean…even as far as organic and Eco-Conscious products have come, isn’t this still the case – people think if products are good for you or the environment, they can’t possibly be beautiful or provide gorgeous results, right?
Such is not the case though! You don’t need to sacrifice beauty when choosing products that are good for you or the environment. Our desire to look good is no longer in conflict with our desire to do good. High end and boutique designers are making beautiful wedding gowns, clothing and accessories that are free of toxic dyes and techniques, constructed in fair trade and sustainable environments, as well as by using materials that are recycled, bio-degradable, organic and cruelty free.
Beauty products have been at the forefront of the green industry for a while though. And yes, Eco-friendly companies continue to make advancements in chemical-free, organic and cruelty-free cosmetics, and skin and hair care products. These companies promise not only beauty on the outside, but beauty on the inside as well.
Below are some ideas to help you do just that!
First off, it you’re interested in going “green” with your makeup for your wedding, be sure to make the change a few months before your actual wedding day as you want to make sure your skin doesn’t have a negative reaction to any new products. Yes, natural products are less likely to be irritants, but it doesn’t matter how good for you or the environment a product is, everyone’s skin is different. Taking precautions to make sure your skin agrees with a new product is always important, but even more so before a big event like your wedding.
It’s important to know that even if a beauty product says it’s natural or organic, in the United States that statement doesn’t really mean anything. Unfortunately, as crazy as it sounds, the FDA has no labeling or ingredient regulations for beauty products. So…your best line of defense is to Do Your Own Research. Make sure to look at all of the ingredients in products you are looking to purchase. Here’s a thorough post by The Daily Green on The 8 Commandments of Natural Beauty. I highly recommend reading through it to familiarize yourself with some “beauty info” you may not already know.

While doing your research for eco-friendly products, you’ll start to recognize various names as leaders in the industry or ones who have excellent reputations for the products they make and the way they do business. For me it’s always about how a company does business just as much as the quality of products they produce. I mean…who wants to buy “good for you” products if they’re made by a company that treats its employees poorly, right?
Luckily, the brands mentioned here are both good for you and good in business as well. Two of my top recommendations for Eco-friendly beauty products are Jane Iredale and rms Beauty. Both companies provide great, quality products with lots of nice colors. And they have been around for a while so they really know their stuff. But, if you want to search further, The Nature of Beauty is fantastic site where you can search for the best in natural and organic beauty lines.
And last but definitely not least, if you’re looking to green your beauty for your big day…be sure to hire a makeup professional who specializes in natural beauty products. Jessica Blades of Blades Natural Beauty just so happens to be one of those amazing experts whose whole business and philosophy centers around products that are good for you. Her company is also one of Fab You Bliss’s preferred wedding vendors. You can check out her listing here or go straight to her site through the link above.
As always, I hope this post has offered up some helpful insight and knowledge as sharing the desire to “go-green” is a path I wholeheartedly believe in!
