December is finally here and it is definitely cold outside! When temperatures drop below zero I find that my outfits become static — a mixture of jeans, boots, a sweater and a warm jacket. To break out of my comfort zone, I wanted to take a piece in my wardrobe that I constantly wore during Spring and Summer, and style it for Fall and Winter: the maxi skirt.
The easiest way to winterize a maxi skirt is to pair it with thick tights or leggings underneath. Since my skirt is sheer I chose to go with classic black paired with black booties. Second, I love the way a few of my favourite bloggers have styled a cozy sweater over a girly skirt for a perfect winter look. Taking that as inspiration, I layered my graphic Forever 21 très chic sweater with my favourite leather jacket. For added warmth, a tight-fitting long sleeve can be worn underneath or a knit scarf for those extra chilly days. To top it off, I completed the look with a fuzzy hat, a sparkly necklace, and a bold lip colour for good measure.
I love when pieces can transition and work in your wardrobe all year long. Never be afraid to experiment with your favourite clothes and accessories from Spring/Summer and winterize them for the coming months. Bring a fresh perspective to your December outfits — You may just surprise yourself!
