Sustainable Wedding Inspiration on an Urban Farm

The unique creativity behind this sustainable wedding inspiration on an urban farm drew me in at first sight! The vision was to create a farm wedding in an unconventional setting and showcase that local vegetables can create stunning, sustainable accents. Garden Dreams Urban Farm and Nursery, located in Pittsburgh, PA, is a hidden treasure that sits on two reclaimed vacant city lots. It provides organic herb, flower, and vegetable seedlings to the surrounding community.

Cara Rufenacht Creative teamed up with Glitter & Grit and Mocha Rose Floral Designs for the dress and floral accents. Erin from Glitter & Grit provided a short lace dress by Whitney Deal for the bride, Morgan. The lace overlay of the dress had a leaf pattern which perfectly complimented her all organic, all locally grown, all edible bouquet.

This bouquet was a masterpiece of vegetables and herbs that looked good enough to eat. Curly kale leaves weaved around the outside while basil, Brussels sprouts, and even a mini eggplant gathered in the center. Baby squash and Romanesco broccoli hung off the sides surrounded by sage and greens.

The groom, Andrew, wore dark jeans, a vest and a dark tie. Keeping with the theme his boutonniere was a combination of ground cherries and a single radish wrapped in kale leaves.

For the table and decor we wanted to combine the charm of a farm wedding with an elegant urban vibe. Soiree by Souleret provided an eclectic collection of vintage tableware. Since each place setting was unique, it was important to tie everything together with gold flatware and a simple textured napkin. The combination of gold rimmed glasses and green vintage glasses created a fusion of charm and class, and a sprig of thyme at each setting brought a fresh picked aroma to the table.

An arrangement of dahlias, zinnias, herbs, berries and vegetables by Mocha Rose sprawled out of its pitcher to fill the reclaimed wooden table. And in keeping with the vegetable farm theme, carrot cake mini cupcakes topped with crystallized ginger from Vanilla Pastry Studio added a finishing sweet touch.

Thanks for stopping by!

[…] Cara photographed her first wedding in 2007, which to her feels like a long time ago!! It has been 8 years Cara!!  She has been self employed and running her own business full time since 2013.  Photography is about 50% of her business.  Cara has serviced between 30 – 50 weddings.  She has been a second shooter for several photographers as well so she has experienced a large number of weddings.  She only photographs between 10-12 weddings a year, which is a conscious decision on her part!  Cara’s work has been featured on FabYouBliss!
