While we were on our trip last week visiting The Westin Resort & Spa and the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf & Spa Resort in Cabo San Lucas, I kept wishing I had packed an extra bag to bring back some local items to decorate our home.
For whatever reason I didn’t think about it this trip. So I’m bringing it up today so you can keep it in mind for your next trip as well.
If you are engaged or a newly married couple, this is most likely the perfect time to start thinking about “how” you want to decorate your home. And if you travel, (even if it’s just once a year), adding style to your home through your travels would be such a fun way to go.
Hats from different regions of the world aren’t only useful for putting on your head. They make great wall art as well. And have you ever noticed, almost every country has a different kind of hat?
So why not dedicate a wall to fun hats from different parts of the world where you’ve visited?
I think this would be really cute. In fact, I might do it myself!
Another great style idea is to bring back linens from your travels. Again, each destination usually has at least one, (perhaps several), distinct style of patterns for their area.
With this, tablecloths can be used to cover tables, of course. But if you’re crafty and they’re not too expensive, you can buy a second tablecloth and make some pillow covers to match!
Although the image above is not a home. It’s actually a venue for a wedding featured on Wedding Chicks yesterday. I loved the eclectic vibe as the items reminded me of things I’ve seen in our travels.
If you’re not the crafty type, you can always find pre-made pillows from local artisan shops or even markets. And don’t forget to bargain, some places encourage it.
Throw rugs are another definite item to remember to get. Also, if you’re purchasing anything breakable, you can wrap your rugs around and in between your breakable items to protect them during your flight home. Win, win.

So whether you decide to pack an extra bag to fill up and bring home with you, or if it’s easier to ship items home, don’t forget about adding style to your home through your travels.
Not only will you achieve a unique vibe that represents you and your spouse, having such items around will bring back fond memories each time you look at them. And that’s the best part of all!
