Some brides just know exactly how they want to style their wedding. From the colors, to the details, to the venue and beyond, it’s almost as if they were born knowing what these things would be. Same goes for fashion and home styling. Some people just have the gift of being able to put styles together without breaking a sweat.
I’m not one of those people. But over the years I’ve been able to figure out that I’m good at putting things together once I have some inspiration. And in fact, sometimes it just takes the simplest of something to get me going, then the creativity starts flowing like water from an open spigot.
If you want to learn a trick I often use, read on to get inspired for your wedding, style or home.

If you’re like me and just need a little help, or perhaps you want to share your style desires with a planner, stylist or designer working with you, I have a fun suggestion.
Everywhere you look these days there’s somewhere else from which you can draw inspiration, especially online. With Pinterest and other social media platforms making it easy for people to share imagery, ideas for whatever you could possibly need are in numerous supply.
As a way to expand your inspiration even more, try not to limit yourself to looking at “like” imagery for your inspiration.
What does that mean?
What I mean to say is…search for inspiration outside of the box. So if you’re just starting to look for colors, textures and designs for your wedding, try looking at non-wedding images such as the ones I’ve selected above. Same thing if you’re looking to re-design a room in your house. Create a board on Pinterest to pin color and texture images that inspire you. Then share your board with your wedding planner who will be able to turn such non-related imagery into the wedding or new space of your dreams.
I used this method to re-design this blog last year. And while many of the images I chose as inspiration were not taken literally, the feeling behind them helped my designer know exactly what kind of vibe I was looking for.
So…if you’re looking for inspiration, think outside the box and start pinning anything that triggers “something” within you. I think it’s one of the best ways to get inspired for your wedding, style or home.
Because in no time at all, you and your designer will see a pattern and suddenly you’ll be one of those who knows exactly what they want!
