If you haven’t been to Iceland, you’ve probably seen it a ton of times without even knowing. Iceland has been in lots of major films recently where fantastical landscapes were needed, such as Noah, Prometheus , Thor: The Dark World, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Stardust, to name just a few.
Since I am part Icelandic, I’m always proud to learn such things about the place my husband has nicknamed “The Home Country“. And although I have yet to visit, (that’s slated for next year), I still feel an affinity and sense of pride whenever Iceland is mentioned.
To clear a few misconceptions…no, the island is not covered in ice like it sounds or how these first few images convey. And it doesn’t get that much colder that parts of the US. The spring, summer and fall are actually quite lovely. And it is considered one of the happiest places in the world to live, as ranked by Forbes. So when Ann and Chris Peters of Photos by Miss Ann sent over their Iceland wedding anniversary shoot, I just knew I had to feature it!

From Ann:
We held our Iceland destination wedding on Saturday, April 14th 2012…exactly 2 years from the epic volcano eruption that halted European travel. When we were planning our wedding we wanted a location unlike any other and we found Iceland to be our answer. We had 40 people join us from around the world and somehow kept our wedding day adventure a complete surprise to everyone.
All our guests knew was that they were to load a bus to our ceremony location at 12 o’clock. To their astonishment, they arrived at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. When Chris and I travel, we pack the days full of adventures; and our wedding day would be no different. Once the ceremony concluded we had our guests begin a wedding day journey which included the following epic stops: Thovaldseyri Farm, Reynisfjara, Vik Beach, Skogafoss Waterfall, Keldur Sod Farm, and concluded with a 5 course sunset meal overlooking the Ranga River.
Our guests were ecstatic at the amount of thought and planning. Now that our Iceland wedding has come and gone we have found ourselves being called to spread the word about how amazing the country is and how incredible it would be to have your destination wedding there. We have managed to do this through our Iceland Wedding Planner blog. We share with bride and grooms, giving them the confidence to choose Iceland as their exciting destination wedding locale. On one of our most recent location scouting trips we decided to also take a few days to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary there and photographed ourselves in some of favorite Iceland wedding locations.
Thanks for stopping by!
Steph! This is beautiful, well done =) Thank you for sharing your heritage, our story, and these wonderful images! Iceland I think is the only place on the planet that you can be exploring a on top of a glacier/volcano, see icebergs, delight in basalt columns protruding from the sea, black sand beaches, abandoned airplanes, enchanted waterfalls, and wild horses all in the same day! Such an adventurous place for an unforgettable destination wedding… more people should consider 😉
Wow! So beautiful. Love all the gorgeous scenery.
