In early June I had the pleasure of visiting a fabulous boutique hotel in Manhattan Beach California for a blissful two day tour and overnight stay. After experiencing its beauty and amenities, and learning about the amazing events they can throw, it’s time to share my experience with you.
If you’re looking to tie the knot in Southern California, why not have your wedding at Shade Hotel Manhattan Beach?
This premiere luxury boutique hotel blends California beach culture and contemporary sophistication in a seamless way. With modern stainless-steel and natural touches including river rock, running water and bamboo to encourage an environment of balance, there is a lovely harmony and peacefulness as soon as your walk in.
Amazing Ceremony Space
While the property is not directly on the beach, I’m sure you’ll agree their gorgeous ceremony location shown above is beyond unique. In fact, while I was there I posted an image of this view on Instagram which received so many positive reviews, I’m certain the space will wow even your most critical guest.
This 1,400 square foot courtyard with its spectacular living wall backdrop, located at the heart of the hotel with many of the rooms surrounding it, really is even more impressive in person. But as you can see in here, it’s pretty darn amazing in images as well!
Rooms & Amenities
Shade offers 38 luxurious guestrooms, including five distinct suites. The guestrooms feature shoji screens that envelop the private bath, and chromatherapy lighting that illuminates the room with customizable color settings. Most rooms include a spacious balcony and some are equipped with Heat & Glo Cyclone fireplaces.
Having traveled a lot myself, I have to say these rooms have some of the nicest amenities I’ve experienced. My favorite, each room has its own Keurig machine with all kinds of coffee, tea and drink selections available. Being that I love my coffee first thing when I wake, this couldn’t have been more perfect!
Excellent Cuisine & Event Services
Now let’s talk about the food. If you’re a food lover and want your wedding guests to really remember your wedding meal, Shade Hotel is for you! Executive Chef Chris Garasic prepared several fantastic meals while I was there and I have to say he’s pretty much a culinary genius. And if you’re looking to have a specific menu or maybe even a special family recipe, he’ll work with you to create the menu of your dreams.
Also, I’m happy to share Shade’s Director of Events Jolise Vought and Events Manager Jayme Brooks, are both an absolute pleasure. Check out their wedding section on Shade’s site then contact them for more information. I have no doubt this team will help you create something amazing for your big day!
When you arrive at the hotel, the lobby flows into Zinc at Shade, the hotel’s bar and restaurant which has an outdoor patio offering all-day dining with extended hour menus, serving brunch 7 days a week from 7 am to 5 pm. Zinc’s after 5 pm menu includes savory snacks, artisan pizzas, innovative American small plates and tapas for two.
The bar is also a hip and inviting environment. In fact, while I was there midweek it was bustling with people winding down and enjoying cocktails after work or a fun day in the sun. A busy bar is always a good sign, and this one checks that box perfectly.
The property also offers hotel guests complimentary use of these fun beach cruisers. What great amenity, huh? This would be perfect if you’re planning a full weekend wedding at the hotel and need some “activities” for your guests. A nice ride along the beach after brunch on a beautiful sunny Southern California day sounds divine!
Rooftop & Pool
I can’t leave without mentioning the fabulous rooftop pool area where I enjoyed an incredible meal prepared by Chef Garasic surrounded by new friends. The rooftop would be a perfect place for a rehearsal dinner or even a small reception.
This place looks amazing day or night!

All in all I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a Southern California wedding venue. In fact, one of the things I like best about this property for a wedding is the availability to completely buy out the property. I always wanted to do that somewhere with my own wedding. With your ceremony and reception in the courtyard, the after party easily flows right into Zinc restaurant bar. No driving, everyone is safe and it’s perfect!
I say if you know you’re going to need 30+ rooms, reserve the entire hotel for your guests to purchase their rooms, (there are other hotels nearby if you need more), and enjoy the entire property with just you and your guests.
Now that would be a wedding to remember!
Thanks for stopping by!
