It was just last year in April that we were in Cabo San Lucas for these press trips. So I was delighted when this lovely wedding at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in Cabo San Lucas photographed by Sara Richardson Photography came in.
Not only is this one of the prettiest beach weddings we’ve seen in a while, it’s also a happy reminder of our wonderful time there last year.
From the Bride:
From the Bride: Brian and I toyed with the idea of eloping & spending our budget on an elaborate honeymoon, but in the end we knew our families & close friends would be disappointed not celebrating with us. We love to travel, so a destination wedding was the next obvious choice. The big question was where. I’m a beach bum and Brian surfs, so there had to be a beach; somewhere really exotic was enticing, but we didn’t want to make it too difficult or expensive for our guests to attend; and we had just attended a wedding in Hawaii, so we wanted to make sure to do something different. Cabo fit the bill perfectly, being that it is so easily accessible from Los Angeles, there are renown surf breaks close enough to town for Brian, and relaxing beaches with clear blue water for me.
We were engaged the previous year in Paris, and since travel played such an integral part in our relationship, I used that as the overall theme of the wedding. Design is a hobby of mine, so I handmade and curated most of the decor displayed at the reception. My aunt handmade the sugar flowers on our cake, I designed & hand printed all of the signage and welcome bags, I collected & painted the bottle table numbers (each named after a destination we travelled together), and spent months collecting decorative trinkets. Designing my own wedding allowed for a lot of personal touches, but it also presented one of our biggest challenges – cost effectively transporting all my treasures internationally. Luckily, we had many family members willing to help by bringing boxes of decor as checked luggage. Denise Acosta and her team at Pueblo Bonito did a fantastic job of setting everything up to my instructions, and was so patient with my totally type-A preparations.
Transporting decor wasn’t our only challenge. About 6 weeks before our wedding, Hurricane Odile devestaed Cabo in an intense late season storm. The first week or so, there was no power or phone lines, so we didn’t know if the resorts had withstood the storm, the news stations gave a bleak outlook. We tried to stay humble, remembering that potentially rescheduling our wedding was minor inconvenience compared to the fact some people lost their homes, however it was a very stressful time. We began looking into options moving the wedding locally, or changing dates, when I heard from Pueblo Bonito and was assured everything was going to be fine in time (assuming the airport was reopened!). There was some cosmetic damage to our reception space which resulted in our changing of the venue to another location within the Pueblo Bonito family, and our amazing photographer Sara Richardson was kind enough to go check out the new space and send me photos since I didn’t get to see the new space in person.
Hurricanes, and venue changes, and transportation aside – everything [else!] went off without a hitch, and we had an amazing time. We ended up with perfect weather, a gorgeous sunset, and fantastic memories to last a lifetime. Our guests raved about what a wonderful time they had, and we even have a couple of friends planning to host their wedding in Cabo since they enjoyed themselves so much!
Thanks for stopping by!
