When Katharyne Dunn Photography and Harper Hadley Events started discussing a winter elopement shoot, they immediately chose to focus on the community and simplicity of a new beginning. Of course, design and pretty items were important, but they wanted to tell the story of what matters most: the new journey that two people embark on in marriage and the community of friends and family that are cheering them on with support.
What better way to do so than to create an intimate gathering of friends to celebrate love? In a loft in an urban neighborhood where everyone gathers to toast to Callie and Lucas’s new beginning, this fabulous team designed the space to be an inviting oasis from the cold; a space that encourages laughter, love and celebration. With that in mind, they chose a fun and festive color palette of gold, turquoise and pink.
From Harper Hadley Events:
The linens, provided by Spielman’s, and paper goods, provided by Paper and Honey, helped bring that to life brilliantly. Laura, the creative behind Paper and Honey, created a beautiful paper suite for us with bright colors and whimsical touches. The ombre calligraphy on the invitation paired so perfectly with the ‘yay’ and ‘nay’ RSVP cards and the bar sign and menu complimented the whole ensemble. The hydrangeas and greenery were organic and romantic, much like a fresh snowfall. Elissa, from E’s Floral, included gold accents in the bouquets to give them an extra winter feel. Other blooms included were wax flower, white roses and eucalyptus leaves.
When designing the space, we wanted it to have all of the elements of a great party at home and still feel like an intimate wedding. So we made sure to have a cake table and bar cart ready for celebrating this new marriage! The bar cart is a family piece that we dressed up with some of our favorite gold barware and berry delights. Laura made us a beautiful “Cheers to the happy couple!” sign and the confetti and the glitter blasted bottles were fun DIY projects. Adding the gold garland brought in more texture and dressed it up a bit. Of course, we were stocked and ready for a wonderful champagne toast! When designing the cake table, we wanted to let the yummy desserts speak for themselves. The beautiful cakes were provided by Sweet Satisfaction Bakery. Pairing the cake with chocolate dipped coconut macaroons and berries complimented the neutrals and added a bit of a natural, homemade feeling to the table.
The fun glitter ‘LOVE’ sign was provided by Spielman’s and brought the focus right back to why we were celebrating in the first place. The intimate, family-style table was complete with rose buds, garland and romantic taper candles. The ivory sequin runner added some glitz to the table-scape and contrasted nicely with the white linen to bring extra dimension. Our fun gold dotted plates were a Homegoods find and went perfectly with the design. Spielman’s provided our festive napkins. We were swooning when we saw everyone gathered around the table, toasting and laughing together. That’s the good stuff!Jess at Brides by Jessa provided an absolutely stunning Reflections by Jordan bridal gown that fit our bride like a glove. The detail in the beading and elegant silhouette was perfect. The low back was such a beautiful and surprising design that resulted in some amazing photos and romantic poses of the bride and groom.
With such a fun group of friends, we certainly wanted them to feel ready to celebrate, so we chose to outfit them in gold. Holley’s Menswear helped us select a modern cowl lapel tux and gold bowties. We kept the groom’s look a bit more classic with all black. For the bridesmaids, we found some gold dresses at Forever21 that worked wonderfully and kept their looks very simple. Ashley provided hair and makeup. I must say that the girls all looked gorgeous and their soft, romantic up dos were a perfect compliment to the jewelry provided by Herteen & Stocker Jewelers. Kate at Herteen & Stocker in Iowa City helped Katharyne select beautiful pieces for all of our models that perfectly complimented our design; everything from the groom’s Tissot watch to the Swarovski and Maya J bracelets on the maids. The Gabriel & Co. engagement ring was an absolute stunner and so unique. The Amethyst and Blue Topaz earrings for the girls to wear were a perfect pairing. It was such a treat to have so many beautifully crafted pieces to play with and style. As we ended the day, the first flurries before Christmas were beginning to fall and made for such a romantic feeling to the newlyweds’ evening stroll along the street. This shoot day was so full of love, laughter and joy. It was a true delight to be a part of.With hints of Kate Spade, lots of sparkle and a fun city loft location, this inspiration is sure to get you excited about a fun elopement with friends and your dearest. What better way to begin the rest of your life, than cozy and celebrating with wonderful company?
