Intimate weddings are a favorite of mine. I just love the idea of keeping things small to be able to share such a special moment with just the people closest to you. Jenna and Alan’s intimate garden dinner party wedding was even more special by the fact they planned their wedding on Jenna’s birthday. How special is that?
From the bride:
Our wedding day was everything we could have dreamed of. When Alan and I took the time to think about what would make us and our guests happiest, we decided to plan a day that incorporated our favorite things: family, friends, and great food.
With a guest list just over 40 people, we were able to spend time with everyone there and having so many people we loved in one room was an incredible experience for us. We actually opted out of a bridal party because it would have been impossible to chose from the people in attendance and wanted to be sure everyone was able to relax and enjoy the weekend.
It was also my birthday that day, which only added to the celebration and was easily the best birthday I’d ever had! We both put of lot of thought into the meaning behind our ceremony and what we really wanted it to be. The decision to get married felt deeply personal and intimate, something that was just between us, but we wanted to celebrate that decision with our loved ones. We were so lucky to be getting married in Pennsylvania, a state with the option to “self unite” rather than have a religious figure or justice of the peace marry us.
At Phipps Conservatory, we had very dear friends recite readings, Alan’s brother and his girlfriend perform a piece of music, and my nephew bring us the rings, but when it came time to say our vows, it was just the two of us standing in the front. For us, it was the perfect decision and granted us the intimacy we wanted while still having our guests be there to witness our marriage.
Our other main priority was the food. Rather than having a traditional reception with dancing, we chose to have a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres and a seven-course meal. We love going on dinner dates and enjoying long meals with great wine while we talk, so our reception was basically that: one big dinner date with all our guests, where we had courses at each table and spent time with everyone. We chose Isabela on Grandview because their food is amazing, staff is so kind, and they have a killer view of the city. Our wedding day ending up being a relaxing, fun day that reflected who we are and let us spend time with people we love. It couldn’t have been better.
Thanks for stopping by!
