When Brooklyn D Photography does styled shoots, she always likes to do something a little different than what others may be doing in her area. She loves classic pastels and glam looks but also enjoys things that are a little darker but still very classy.
For this shoot, Brooke teamed up with a number of talented vendors from Vancouver to create a shoot inspired by the Steampunk Era. If you’re not familiar with steampunk, it is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. With this style in mind, the team decided to include lots of copper, machinery inspiration, as well as a Victorian glam look. And we think it turned out fabulous!
From the photographer:
The search for the venue ended up being quite tricky. We were looking for something with a worn look that still had a look of beauty. I scouted out numerous sites, and only a few days before the shoot was set to happen, came across the Pipe Shop in North Vancouver. It was PERFECT. Unfinished walls, cement floor, giant pillars, high ceilings, and large windows were exactly what I had envisioned.
The tablescape that Maria, from Niche events stylists, put together were stunning. I loved the combination of pinks, greens, purples, and copper, as well as all of the little touches of mechanics, such as the gear, adorned place cards made by Sarah from Stationery Bike. I think my favorite part of the setup was the handmade copper overhang for the table that Maria made herself. What a gorgeous detail.
Maria chose to also do a second setup that included numerous vintage trunks and suitcases, as well as old machinery parts she had around her house. It made for quite a unique cake table setup, as well as another visionary location for the model to be photographed in. We chose a gown from Ivory bridal and paired it with numerous accessories from other vendors in order to achieve the perfect Victorian, steampunk, glam look.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the way this shoot came together and with the hard work that all of the vendors put in. I think it is perfect inspiration for the bride and groom wanting something a little non-traditional!
Thanks for stopping by!
