Hannah shares her vision for their wedding could be described as a semi-rustic glam look. The rustic feel came blush pink hues, and flowers. The glam feel came from the gold accents that were all over. The wedding feel was more casual but with elegance added in as well.
Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A: Our wedding was amazing! (But of course, we are biased). We had a vision of what our day would look like, and it was so awesome to see that vision come to life. We stuck to a “summer” theme of light colors and flowers. Pink has always been my favorite color and I knew right away it would be incorporated into our wedding. We added gold and some greenery and it turned out to be the perfect colors and theme.
Q: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A: The decor was a lot of gold and pink accents. I feel we didn’t have an abundance of decor, but that is also because our venue was beautiful in itself and it didn’t take much. We did have DIY decor! All of our centerpieces were wine bottles that were spray painted different shades of gold and rose gold. We also had some wine bottles spray painted pink as part of the aisle and reception decor. Now I am not the DIY type of person, thankfully my good friend is and was a huge help along with Chad’s mom. We also restored two old window panes to use as a welcome sign and list the bridal party on. The second window pane was used for the bar and had all the drinks listed on it. Everything came together so perfectly, and it was definitely a combination of the already amazing venue and a few decorations that made it perfect.
Q: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
A: The flowers were my favorite part of our decor and brought together everything! “Flowers” were our theme you could say. Our florist was so amazing and brought to life the vision we had. We had lots of different roses, hydrangeas, eucalyptus and different forms of greenery, and also a mix of single blooms for the wine bottle center pieces. We had planned for our ceremony to be outside and have flowers going across and down the gazebo, but since we had to move the ceremony inside because of a storm, the flowers were set on the ledge behind where we had our ceremony. I would say the flowers and floral arrangements were the most important part of our overall style for our wedding.
Q: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A: I would say the whole wedding was pretty personalized, we didn’t have just one thing. Every aspect of our wedding was just so “us”. It’s hard to name a favorite part, but our absolute favorite if we had to pick one was our first look with each other. It was so emotional and so perfect. It was crazy not speaking all not and not seeing each other. Then to get to see each other just us and have that moment to ourselves was something we will never forget. Even though our ceremony was moved inside it was still wonderful. Saying our vows in front of our closest friends and family and becoming husband and wife in that moment is indescribable, that is another favorite moment. The food was amazing and we the most fun reception ever. To see everyone having such a great time could not have made us happier. Our cheeks hurt from smiling so much!! The reception in itself was also a favorite moment. Everyone was out on the dance floor having the best time! I even did the worm..in my wedding dress…talk about a risky move. I also have to add doing a “first look” with my dad and our first dance was such a special moment for me, same with Chad and his mom’s first dance. We have the most amazing parents so getting to share our special day with them was so great for us. To be honest though, every moment and part of our wedding day was our favorite!
Q: Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? How did the groom? Describe both looks in detail.
A: Ahh wedding dress shopping! That was one of my favorite wedding planning activities. I got the first dress I tried on! Talk about the least stressful shopping experience ever. I was with some of my family and friends and I put my dress on and loved it instantly. But did I love it because it was the first one I tried on or THE ONE. After about 10 different dresses and styles, I kept going back to the first one. I knew in my heart this was the one I would get married in! It was so easy and such a great experience. I went in with no expectations and not really an idea of what I wanted. I was totally open to trying anything. My dress was all lace, strapless sweetheart neckline, and a fit n flare style. I ended up getting a layer of the bottom cut out so it wasn’t as poufy and I am so happy I did. For the bridesmaids I knew I wanted them in long dresses but I also knew they all have such different style and didn’t want to make them all wear the same dress. So I gave them free range! I told them it had to be long and a shade of light pink. And let me tell you, they did an amazing job picking out their dresses! They all came together so perfectly and each one picked out a dress that fit their style so perfectly. For Chad and the groomsmen they wore light tan suits. We knew since we were having our wedding in the summer and our colors were light pink and gold that tan would go perfectly, and it did! They all looked so handsome in their suits. They wore light pink ties and white under shirts. All in all picking out the outfits and planning what everyone would wear was a walk in the park and turned out better than we had imagined!
Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A: Chad did an amazing job! He only told my parents and his. He told me a customer was having a dinner we had to attend. I was not too thrilled about this dinner we had to go to. So we go and when we got there Chad refused to use the valet… which was really weird and I got kind of annoyed he went and parked so far away from the restaurant. So we ended up having to walk kind of far to the restaurant through this almost trail/ pathway (I am annoyed that we are having to walk so far while chad is super nervous that he is about to purpose!). We get to a spot by the lake and he kind of just pulls me aside AND GETS DOWN ON ONE KNEE! I honestly don’t remember a single word he said but I know it was the best moment of my life thus far! He planned a photographer to be there so we can forever look back on that day. Chad even went down to Virginia Beach to ask my dad for my hand in marriage a few weeks before. I was also very impressed. I could not have asked for a better proposal! It was totally us and so perfect!! Even cooler he ONLY told my parents and his and it was such a perfect evening. After the proposal the restaurant brought us out champagne and we had an amazing dinner!
Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A: Marrying each other and saying our vows! We were waiting for that moment for what seemed like forever. Like I mentioned before, it is an indescribable feeling to stand up there in front of your closest friends and family and get to marry your best friend. Everything was so wonderful and perfect the entire day but that moment we got to say “I do” and become husband and wife was the most special moment.
Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
A: Don’t stress! I can’t say that enough to my friends who are going through the wedding planning process. I had the least stressful year of wedding planning and it made things so enjoyable. We used vendors that were either suggested to us by our venue or people we knew and they all turned out to be amazing. I feel like you can so easily get caught up in the planning, but to us it was important to enjoy it and just take it all in as we went through it. Trust me, things will go wrong or not go as planned. We had a huge storm come through, but luckily we had an inside option. Which is another piece of advice, have a back up ceremony option if it’s supposed to be outside! Also, my dad stepped on my veil after he walked me down the aisle and ripped it out of my hair. So some things didn’t go as planned but it was still the most perfect day. So enjoy it, enjoy every moment and don’t waste time stressing the small things!
Thanks for stopping by!
