Spills & Thrills – Edition #1

I’ve decided to add a fun new post segment to this blog called Spills & Thrills, which is obviously my version of thumbs-up and thumbs-down on things happening in my life or in general.  Feel free to email anything you’d like me to add to the next edition, stephanie@fabyoubliss.com.  This should be fun!

Here’s what I have to start the week off…

SPILLS

*  Why every bottle of club soda I open explodes all over me.

*  The dog who bit me at the dog park this weekend and especially the owners who didn’t even apologize.  Seriously rude!

*  The lack of warmth in my house, even with the heater on I’m still wearing a fleece jacket and a knit hat while I work.  Now I might need to get some gloves.

*  It’s Halloween…lot’s of candy in the house, eek!

*  And last but definitely not least, Kim Kardashian and her over-the-top extravagance and the stupidity of her 72 day marriage.

and now for the…

THRILLS

*   It’s November tomorrow, which means we’re that much closer to being able to put up the Christmas tree!

*  Wedding photography…it’s always a thrill 🙂

*  My sleeping puppy.

*  It’s Halloween…can’t wait to see all the little trick-or-treaters.

*  And finally, Kim Kardashian may have actually sunk her own ship with this latest genius move.  At least we can only hope.

My cute little bunny!  Happy Halloween 🙂

Until next time…

Have a Fab You Bliss Monday!

xoxo

Stephanie

A Beyond Gorgeous Ceremony Set-Up Complete with a Gray Silk Covered Ceiling & Fantastic Chandeliers

Good morning and happy Monday Fab You Bliss readers!  It’s starting to really feel like fall here on the coast of California, at least in the mornings and evenings when it’s quite chilly and The Hubby and I play “see-saw” with the heater controls.  Like most women, I’m pretty much cold all the time…unless it’s between 72 and 74 degrees, that’s what The Hubby says anyway.  And just between me and you, he’s right…but shhhh, don’t tell him I agreed 😉

Anyhow, moving on to today’s feature, the wedding of Nicole and Elias, which comes to us from Sarah Whitmeyer of Whitmeyer Photography and was held at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville.  This hotel is fantastic and has been featured here a few times.  When we first received this wedding I was drawn to it because of the beyond-gorgeous ceremony area.  I mean just look at the gray silk covered ceiling with those fabulous chandeliers.  Isn’t it just spectacular?  And Nicole’s slip on Jessica Simpson ballet shoes are amazing and perfect for the bride who prefers comfort, (or like my beautiful sister), who is model-like tall but would prefer to be the same height as her husband.  Anyway, let’s have a look and this lovely wedding.

Photographer:  Whitmeyer Photography

Floral Designer:  The  Bloom Room

Reception Venue:  Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville

Make-up Artist:  Blush by Wendy Ballance, LLC

Hair Stylist:  Amy of Pi Salon in Biltmore Village

Shoes:  Jessica Simpson

Tomorrow we have a pink and black wedding photographed by Mandy Paige Photography, so be sure to stop back by to check it out.

Until then, have a Fab You Bliss Monday!

PS…if you like this post…please share it!

Sleepless Nights + My Response To An Extremely Controversial E-Mail

Lately I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping.  Sometimes I wake up at 4 am and just can’t get back to sleep.  So instead of lying in bed awake staring at the ceiling, I just get up and start my work day.  And while I do get a lot of stuff done before most people are awake, unfortunately this morning instead of 4:00 am it was 2:30 am!  Now, I’m definitely a morning person…but this is ridiculous.  I mean 2:30 am is not really even morning, it’s kind of still night don’t you think?  Ugh!  I know part of my sleeplessness has to do with the fact that The Hubby has been traveling for work a lot and this house feels ten times larger when I’m in it alone.  Of course since I’m taking care of my parents dog right now not only do I have Quinley for protection, I also have their dog as well.  So all in all I do feel safe as they would never let anyone un-welcome in the house.  Honestly I would hate to see what would happen to someone if they tried to get in.  But The Hubby will be back today so I don’t have to worry about that.

I think the other reason for my insomnia, at least this morning, is because I read a very unsettling email yesterday posted by a fellow blogger, Hindsight Bride.  The post was actually an email sent in by a photographer which Hindsight Bride posted on her blog.  And in a nutshell the photographer basically went on a ranting rampage about how ALL wedding bloggers only post weddings that have mason jars, burlap details, wildflowers, stuffed initials, distant mountains, tea-length dress, etc., etc. and that incorporating such details into a wedding is impossible for most “average” brides.  The email also accused us bloggers of ignoring average weddings and pretty much said we’re all starting to look alike anyway.  And to my surprise, of the 200 + comments, many were in support of what this photographer had to say.

To me, that is shocking!  And I take great offense to it because I am working my a** off to make this blog  a success by posting all kinds of weddings, but mainly supporting the work of good photographers.  Also, I am constantly trying to make my content different from other bloggers.  Now I know this photographer wasn’t exactly talking about my blog, I mean for all I know she has never bothered to look at other blogs outside of the ones she is ranting about.  And although in her email she does state there are some bloggers “doing it right”, I’m still rather perturbed by her classification of ALL of us and I’m mystified as to why she would write such things.  Besides, even if she isn’t referring to my blog, since the wedding blogging community is kind of small, she’s pointing her finger at the blog of a friend or colleague I have collaborated with at some point in the past and I feel I need to defnd them as well.

Sure there are some blogs who do only post weddings with certain details, but that is their choice.  That’s their brand and if you or any other photographer submits a wedding to them that doesn’t fit their brand, guess what…they’re not going to accept it.  And that’s the same for ALL bloggers and print media as well.  For example, take Vogue Magazine or Vanity Fair, do you think they would ever publish any average looking models?  The answer is no, because as much as we don’t like it, “average” doesn’t sell magazines.  And the same goes for some of the blogs you are referring to.  They didn’t get to their lofty status by publishing “average” weddings.  On the contrary they gained their popularity by publishing, high-end, detail heavy weddings that brides and wedding professionals like to look at and are inspired by.

So, in conclusion, if you don’t like what certain blogs publish, don’t visit them and definitely don’t submit to them.  There are PLENTY of other wedding blogs out there and we ARE all different so please don’t classify us all as “looking” the same.  We all work really hard at what we do and I think your hateful words are unfounded and basically a sign of insecurity.  And in my opinion, your bitterness is just an uglier form of envy.

I’d like to hear what you think about this.  Are you in support of what this photographer had to say or do you feel the same as I do?

Please share your thoughts.

A Palm Cove Golf and Yacht Club Wedding

We love the starfish theme in the Palm Cove Golf and Yacht Club wedding photographed by Melissa DeJong of Stay Forever Photography.  And look at how interesting these Badgley Mischka shoes are.  The soft, flower-petal-like fabric is so fitting and along with bride Maureen’s San Patrick dress and groom Brian’s tan suit and pink tie, we think this Florida yacht club wedding is fabulously appropriate.  And look at the hand-made “I Do” and “Me-Too” signs hanging off the golf cart, aren’t they super cute and creative?  We also love the floating sail boat and the one on “dry land” as well.  Such a cute wedding.  So go on, have a look and see for yourself!

Stay tuned for tomorrow as we have a gorgeous wedding from a favorite photographer of ours, Chelsea Elizabeth Photography .  Definitely make sure you stop by to check it out.  Until then…

Wildflowers on a Bluff with One Sexy and Sweet Couple

Hello Fab You Bliss fans…today we have a gorgeous, wildflower filled engagement session for you that is both sexy and sweet photographed by the talented Stacey Speck of SAS Photography.  Bride and groom to be, May and Florin, have that “boy and girl next door” quality mixed in with an obvious sensuality that is clearly evident through these lovely images.  And what could be better for a couple in love, right?  So we are absolutely enamoured by their photographs!  And who wouldn’t be with a wonderful mix of sweet shots of them in the wildflowers followed by their passionate beach ones.  We think this shoot is pretty awesome!
